The Johnnywriter Journal: The Businesses That Failed Before the Businesses That Worked

The businesses that exist today under the Hisparadise name are not the only ideas I have ever tried. Several attempts did not survive their early stages, and I think it is worth being honest about them, rather than only presenting the versions that eventually worked.

Not Every Idea Deserves to Survive, and That Is Fine

Some ideas simply did not hold up once tested against real conditions — real customers, real costs, real logistics. Letting go of those ideas was uncomfortable at the time, but in hindsight, most of them were not strong enough to be worth the ongoing effort they would have required.

Early Attempts Taught Me What to Look for Later

The attempts that did not become lasting businesses were not wasted time. Each one sharpened my sense of what a workable idea actually looks like — enough real demand, a problem clear enough to explain simply, and a path to delivering on it consistently. That sharpened judgment shaped how I evaluated every idea that came afterward.

Ending an Idea Is Different From Failing as a Person

It took time to separate an idea not working from some larger statement about my own capability. An idea can fail to find real demand for reasons that have nothing to do with the effort or character of the person behind it. Learning to see it that way made it far easier to let go of ideas that were not working, without it damaging my willingness to try the next one.

Why This Matters More Than the Success Stories

It would be simpler to only tell the story of the businesses that worked. But I think the attempts that did not survive are just as important to the full picture — proof that not every idea has to succeed for the process itself to be worthwhile, as long as you are willing to keep trying the next one.

Some Ideas Failed Simply Because the Timing Was Wrong

Not every idea that did not survive was fundamentally flawed — some simply arrived before the right conditions existed to support them. Recognising this distinction has kept me from writing off every unsuccessful attempt as proof that the underlying idea itself was bad.

Grieving an Idea Is a Real, Legitimate Part of the Process

Letting go of an idea you genuinely believed in involves a real sense of loss, even if it never became a full business. I have learned to allow myself that brief period of disappointment, rather than immediately forcing myself to feel fine about it and move on before I actually have.
