Ukeme Johnny Nsekpong (born June 15, 1996), professionally known as Johnnywriter, is a Nigerian writer, entrepreneur and technology founder. He is the founder of Hisparadise Group, a growing ecosystem of independent businesses spanning wellness, cleaning services, media, technology, education, real estate and community platforms. Early Life and Family
Ukeme Johnny Nsekpong is the first child and only son in a family of four children, raised by his mother alongside three sisters. His upbringing shaped his emotional intelligence and empathy from an early age, and his mother's resilience and determination instilled in him values of perseverance and compassion that would later define his professional work.
His early life — marked by personal struggle and an early awareness of human hardship — became the foundation for a lifelong interest in understanding why people behave the way they do, how pain shapes character, and how dignity can survive difficult circumstances. From a young age, he showed a strong inclination toward observation and reflection rather than surface-level success.
Education
Johnnywriter began his formal education in Etinan, where he attended primary and secondary school. He went on to study Banking and Finance at Madonna University, Okija, graduating in the 2016/2017 academic session. That education gave him a grounding in business and financial thinking that later supported his entrepreneurial ventures, even as his deeper interests leaned toward human behaviour, emotion and storytelling.
In 2018, he completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) in Ibusa, Delta State. Since 2019, he has pursued further professional certifications related to his work, continuing to build on his formal education as his ventures have grown.
Early Literary Achievement
In his early adulthood, Johnnywriter wrote his first memoir, The Street Hawker — a raw, honest account inspired by lived and observed realities. The book became a foundational pillar of his broader philosophy: that dignity must never be measured by appearance, status or circumstance. It was an early demonstration of his gift for storytelling and his commitment to giving voice to experiences that are often overlooked.
The Street Hawking Experiment
One of the most defining moments in Johnnywriter's life came through a personal experiment in empathy. Determined to understand the realities faced by street vendors and hawkers, he deliberately placed himself in their position — selling products on the street, including one occasion near Asaba Shopping Mall on Okpanam Road.
What he encountered permanently changed his outlook. He experienced ridicule, suspicion and dismissive treatment, even from people younger than himself.
That night, walking home, Johnnywriter realised something profound: if this is how I am treated — well dressed, educated, articulate — what then becomes of the actual street hawkers who live this reality every day?
His response was not self-pity but moral concern for the many hawkers exposed daily to hardship, exhaustion and social rejection. He later described witnessing an elderly woman selling sachet water being denied payment and left to chase after a moving vehicle — an incident that deepened his conviction about the dignity owed to people who provide honest, everyday service.
Street hawkers are not beggars. They are service providers. They deserve respect.
The 2018 Crisis
Before the breakthrough came the breakdown. While watching a television commercial about depression, Johnnywriter recognised, with sudden clarity, that he had been living with severe depression for some time without naming it as such.
In February 2018, he was posted to Asaba, Delta State for his NYSC service year. Living in a city where he knew almost no one, he became an entrepreneur out of necessity — travelling to Onitsha market to buy goods and reselling them in Asaba.
At night, I sold fried chicken and fried plantain on the streets. During the day, I sold bedsheets, clothes, and anything else I could move. Every naira mattered. Every sale was a small victory.
After his service year ended, circumstances grew significantly harder — the small NYSC allowance was gone, sales slowed, and bills accumulated with little support to rely on. Around the same period, his health also began to fail: an appendix operation he could barely afford, followed shortly after by a hernia and a second surgery, each compounding both the financial and physical strain he was carrying.
My body was breaking down, my finances were non-existent, and my mind was drowning in darkness.
In that period of isolation and hopelessness, Johnnywriter reached a point of contemplating suicide seriously enough that he wrote a note. Rather than acting on it, he brought the note to a church service and left it at the altar — a last, desperate attempt to be heard.
The Turning Point
What followed changed the course of his life. Rev. Ovie Ekpewu, a leader within the church, approached him and said something he has never forgotten:
Johnny, you're depreciating.
The word struck deeply — not appreciating, not growing, but losing value, fading. Someone had seen past the composed exterior he presented publicly to the private struggle underneath, and that recognition became the beginning of real change.
Around the same time, Mr. Sigismund Iweanya offered practical support and belief in him at a point when he could not fully believe in himself, including help with packaging for the small business he was running to survive. It was not simply financial help — it was someone investing in his potential when he had little left to invest in himself.
Johnnywriter has since credited both men with a simple but important lesson: sometimes survival depends on people who can see our worth when we have temporarily lost sight of it ourselves.
Professional Work
Understanding hardship and emotional pain from lived experience rather than theory alone, Johnnywriter went on to found Hisparadise Therapy, built around a mission of restoring clarity and dignity to people navigating relationship challenges, personal growth and emotional wellbeing.
I went from writing a suicide note to writing stories of transformation. From contemplating ending my life to dedicating it to helping others find theirs.
His entrepreneurial path continued through Jocintek Technology Limited, a technology and digital solutions business, and Hisparadise Media, a storytelling and content business rooted in his long-standing identity as a writer. Over time, these businesses were joined by others, together forming the Hisparadise Group — an ecosystem that today includes nine active businesses spanning wellness, cleaning services, media, technology, education, real estate and community platforms.

Poverty is driving a rise in the number of Nigerian child hawkers, and if the government cannot help, we should help one another.
His writing and public commentary consistently return to a set of uncomfortable questions: why society disrespects people who provide honest, everyday service; why survivors trying to make an honest living are so often met with suspicion rather than support; and what it would mean if any one of us found ourselves in that same position tomorrow.
