Finding happiness is great, but staying happy is a skill that not so many people are aware of. You have to be intentional and always put in the effort in other to maintain a happy life.

It’s the feeling of truly enjoying your life, and the desire to make the very best of it. Happiness is the “secret key” that can help us be and do our best.

So in this article, I would be sharing 7 practical ways you can do to make your life happier and watch as you transform into the best version of yourself.

1) GET ENOUGH SLEEP


This comes first because I believe many people underrate the benefits of good sleep. A human being needs 6-8 hours of sleep daily to function properly. Getting a good night’s sleep is incredibly important for your health and well-being in general. Sleep deprivation can put your mental and physical health at risk, that’s why you must prioritize your sleep. When you sleep well, you think better, function efficiently and feel great.

2) EAT HEALTHY


What goes in and out of your mouth affects your life more than you think, and you must have basic knowledge about what eating healthy is all about. Eating healthy is not about going on fad diets, eating only fruits and veggies of that sort. No. Eating healthy means you feed your body all the six classes of food in their right proportions. Fuel your body and it will thank you health-wise. You’d see that most illnesses of today can be cured if we are mindful of our eating happy. Cut down on the junk/processed food, you can indulge once in a while but do not overdo it. Eat your way to a happy and long life.

3) GET UP AND MOVE YOUR BODY


I am a witness that this one works! Exercising goes way beyond losing weight, getting those muscles toned, or seeing the number on the scale go down. It improves your mental health and your mood gets better. Here is a fun fact: When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. So, you see? Move your body today! Walk, dance, run, swim, cycle, just move!

4) GROOM YOURSELF


Take a nice shower, wear good clothes, wear good perfume, trim your nails, visit a spa, get a massage, and develop a skincare routine. It’s these little things I tell you. Asides from feeling good about yourself, appearances matter everywhere you find yourself and reflect not only your credibility but earn you a silent recommendation in people’s minds. So take out time to pamper your physical self and fall in love with what you see in the mirror.

5) HANG OUT WITH YOUR FAVORITE PEOPLE


This would help you increase your sense of belonging and purpose. Boost your happiness and reduce your stress. Improve your self-confidence and self-worth. Help you cope with traumas, such as divorce, serious illness, job loss or the death of a loved one. It just feels so good to know you have people you can count on, so don’t joke with your solid friendships.

6) TREAT YOURSELF ONCE IN A WHILE


You only live once and when you are gone, you are gone.  I know life can get busy sometimes, that twenty fours a day do not seem enough anymore. You get so immersed used to work and avoid burnout, which can greatly affect your mood and conduct. Always know when it’s time to take a break and chill. Take yourself on a solo dinner date, travel, go to the movies, or go see a live football match at the stadium. Just anything that makes you smile, do it. Your bank account will be fine.

7) THINK OF HAPPY THOUGHTS


I know this sounds a bit cliché because you have heard a lot of “just be positive” quotes and the likes. Well, for something to be cliché means that it works. The only time this gets bad is when it turns to Toxic Positivity, which is forcing yourself to always be positive and not acknowledging that you are human too and can have negative thoughts.
My point here is that you have control over your mind more than you think.
Instead of thinking about why things would not work out, things of reasons why they would and imagine the scenarios. If you dream it, you can be it.
